UTS Robotics Society is committed to bathing our new members in the endless sea of knowledge. In that regard, here are the details of our first workshop, “Intro to Programming,” or “Help! Java has just gobbled up all my RAM.”Also, we have our first meet and greet being held tomorrow, Tuesday March 3rd. More details here and a fancy Facebook event link if you prefer that.
Workshop 1 – Intro to Programming
Our first workshop will introduce everyone to the wonderful world of computer programming. This is the fine art of turning words into commands that makes computers do lovely things like count from 1 to 10 and display “Hello World.”…. Don’t worry, it gets much more interesting as the hours progress and we will soon be making robots kill each other with super soakers (Disclaimer: This may not be exactly true)
Our first workshop is aimed at people who have never seen a line of code in their life. If you think a bubble sort is a form of professional chewing gum organisation then this workshop is for you! We will be using Java as our choice of language. It’s a great choice for beginners because it works on almost all platforms and doesn’t involve messing about with messy things like pointers, binary and all that complex computer stuff.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday March 4th from 4PM to approximately 5:30PM. It can potentially go on for longer if you have questions to ask or you want us to go slower. Can’t make it at exactly 4PM? No worries~ Just pop in whenever you are free and we can quickly get you up to speed. Can’t make it on Wednesday? Just come to one of our other meetings on Tuesday/Wednesday and one of our execs will get you up to speed (As long as you don’t show up at the end of semester and want us to go over the whole course in 10mins. That may not quite work.)
